Overview BGI’s Global Market Strategies Group is seeking a Research Associate to conduct research and generate ideas leading to alpha signals that forecast excess returns for fixed income and currency models. He/she will work closely with the seven-person research team to forecast returns over the intermediate and long term and to deliver strong investment results for clients in an actively managed currency product and a global macro hedge fund. The role will be based in London or San Francisco. It is imperative that the successful candidate possess outstanding research skills and have an interest in conducting high-level research applied to financial markets. For this role, BGI is seeking an individual with strong academic credentials with knowledge of fixed income markets. Experience in financial markets or knowledge of foreign exchange markets would be a plus. Responsibilities • Conducts research on forecasting returns in some or all of the following markets: bond, money market, credit, and foreign exchange • Contributes new insights for models across the spectrum of macro-oriented investing • Stay well-informed on market developments to help advise model managers on risks and opportunities as they arise • Work collegially within the broader firm to help achieve best practices on a global basis Requirements • An advanced degree in economics or finance (or some other field combined with relevant experience) • Demonstrated ability to conduct high-quality fixed income and currency research • Can demonstrate creativity and idea generation and has executed on research ideas • Deep insight into fixed income (and/or currency) markets • Passion for generating excess returns for clients • Readily able to establish professional capability, must be self-assured and energetic • Shared mindset with regard to a comprehensive set of strategic concepts for guiding the process of - and increasing the profits from - active investment management. • Ability to interact with clients • Additional experience outside of fixed income such as currencies, equities, or commodities a plus • Impeccable character with high ethical and quality standards • Hard working and driven to succeed • A team player who is able to operate credibly and effectively with highly accomplished associates in a collegial, demanding, and high performance environment • Confident – able to credibly represent the firm and to champion new products/ideas internally • Ability to work independently with limited oversight BGI is an Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity employer.
